The Kashmir Solidarity Day was observed in Washington DC to express solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir

The Kashmir Solidarity Day was observed in Washington DC to express solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The Embassy of Pakistan organized a Kashmir Seminar to highlight the issue. Prominent members of Pakistani American and Kashmiri-American communities participated in the seminar.

On this occasion the speakers highlighted various dimensions of the Jammu and Kashmir issue, the legitimate struggle of the oppressed people for their right to self determination and the human rights violations committed by India in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Professor Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Planning, Development and Reform in his remarks highlighted the Prime Minister's policy of peaceful neighborhood and his initiative on Kashmir presented in the United Nations General Assembly in Sep, 2015. He emphasized that an economically strong and politically stable Pakistan would be in a better position to sustain its support for Kashmir issue.

Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani in his comments dilated upon the genesis of the Kashmir dispute. He paid rich tributes to the valiant Kashmiris for their sacrifices. He stated that Pakistan would never relent in its moral, political and diplomatic support to the people of Kashmir. The Ambassador reiterated Pakistan’s commitment towards the peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance to the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) Resolutions and the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Ambassador Riaz Mohammad Khan, the former Foreign Secretary and Ambassador Touqir Hussain, Professor at Johns Hopkins University underscored the urgency of resolving the Kashmir issue for regional security and economic development. They decried the apathy of international community on the plight of Kashmiris who have been subjected to Indian subjugation for three generations. They also highlighted that national and political consensus in Pakistan on Kashmir issue had always remained constant.

The chairman of Kashmir Foundation International and a representative of Kashmiri community while expressing their views appreciated the commitment of the Government of Pakistan to resolving the Jammu and Kashmir issue and supported the Prime Minister's initiative.
