A Business Roundtable Conference on Textiles and Apparel sector was held in Washington DC on the side lines of the TIFA Council meeting on May 14th, 2014. Minister Commerce Engr. Khurram Dastgir welcomed participants of the conference, and apprised the attendees of the positive steps taken by the government to promote investor friendly atmosphere in the country especially in the textile sector. He said, the government has undertaken structural reforms for market development and efficient public sector management. He reiterated government’s resolve to ensure prospective investors fair competition, rationalize tariff and policy distortions, ease entry barriers, reduce government involvement and improve regulatory quality. Citing the consistently improving economic figures defining business confidence, exceptional performance of the Karachi Stock Exchange, and rate of return experienced by US businesses in Pakistan, the Minister invited US businesses to come to Pakistan to experience first hand, “a welcoming, investment friendly and a congenial atmosphere for expanding existing businesses and starting new ones”.
