Consulate General of Pakistan, Los Angeles hosted a Webinar on ‘Human Rights Crisis in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir’, on 6 August 2020.
Sardar Masood Khan, President of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, briefed the audience about the historical background of the Kashmir dispute.
Congressman TJ Cox, said that violation of human rights anywhere in the world is a source of concern for him and people of United States and so is the situation of Human Rights in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir, where human rights of residents are being violated on routine basis.
Mr. Tony Rivero, Member, Arizona House of Representatives and Chairman, Arizona House of Representative Committee on State and International Affairs, expressed concerns about human rights violations in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir.
Ms. Victoria Schofield, British Journalist and Historian, stated that Human Rights situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir is a source of concern for the whole world and Kashmir dispute is a threat to peace of the world as both India and Pakistan are nuclear powers.
Professor Farhan Mujahid Chak, a Canadian Academic, briefed the audience about the tactics Indian Government is using to suppress the Kashmiri people and more than 100,000 Kashmiris have sacrificed their lives due to Indian state brutality since 1989 and rape against Kashmiri women is a common occurrence.
Doctor Asif Mahmood, Democratic Party leader said that there is more awareness in the United States about Kashmir dispute and human rights violations taking place Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir.
Ambassador Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, on this occasion, said that it has been one year since India imposed military siege in Kashmir and Mr. Modi has closed all doors of dialogue and therefore peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute look more difficult. He said that atrocities being committed in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir by the Indian occupied forces are beyond imagination.
Ambassador Dr. Asad Majid Khan, appreciated the role played by Pakistani Community in the United States, particularly on West Coast, in becoming the voice of Kashmiris in the United States. He said that it is their campaign which led to US Congress’s hearings to discuss Human Rights Violations in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir. He further stated that world must pay heed to the catastrophic human rights crisis unfolding in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir and do more to stop it.
