Ambassador Masood Khan has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of former Honorary Consul of Pakistan in Philadelphia Dr. Inayat Hussain Kathio.

Dr. Kathio was a renowned Pittston veterinarian and a dedicated community leader who continued serving the interests of Pak-American community as Honorary Consul of Pakistan in the United States.

He died at the at the age of 69 due to cardiac issues.

“We mourn the passing away of a great community leader – Dr Inayat Kathio. A former Honorary Consul of Pakistan, mentor to hundreds, champion of Pakistani American causes, a devoted family man – we will miss him. Deepest condolences to his family and friends,” tweeted Ambassador Khan.

Born on September 8, 1953 in Naseerabad Sindh, Dr. Kathio had completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences of Sindh Agriculture University in 1978. In 1981, he came to Washington for a fellowship and completed his Ph.D. and post-doctorate from Georgetown University, Missouri, Columbia University, and Iowa University. He served as a veterinarian in Sindh Government and consultant in the United Nations Development Program. Dr. Kathio had a number of scientific articles to his credit which were carried by leading international newspapers.

He was appointed as Honorary Consul of Pakistan in Philadelphia in recognition of his countless services for Pak-American community. He was a proactive community leader who strongly believed in the ideals of democracy and rule of law.

“His demise is a huge loss for Pak-American community,” said Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States.

In his personal message to the bereaved family, Ambassador Khan expressed his deep heartfelt and deep sympathies and said that he devastated to hear the sad news of passing away of Mr Inayat Kathio.
