The Embassy of Pakistan hosted a luncheon media interaction with Washington based Pakistani correspondents from print and electronic media to bid farewell to the Pakistan Ambassador to US Jalil Abbas Jilani today. The event was very well attended by the mainstream Pakistani mediapersons.
On the occasion, Ambassador Jilani briefed the Pakistani Journalists about the historic nature of relationship between Pakistan & US spanning over 07 decades. Pakistan and US bilateral relations had improved significantly over the last few years. Now there was a greater understanding in the US about the role played by Pakistan in a global fight against terrorism and the challenges faced by Pakistan in this regard, he added. The revival of the Strategic Dialogue in 2013 had laid down a strong foundation of the fresh start to further strengthen ties between the two countries. Ambassador also drew attention of the participants towards Six Working Groups between Pak & US which are working for advancing interests of both the countries in different fields namely Economy, Finance & Trade, Energy Sector Cooperation, Counter Terrorism and Law Enforcement Cooperation, Defence Cooperation, Nuclear Cooperation & cooperation in the fields of Education, Science & Technology.
Ambassador Jilani underscored that there was a renewed interest in Pakistan due to the recent economic turnaround in the country. There was a positive feedback from the International institutions like IMF and World Bank as Pakistan has been regarded as one of the fast emerging economies. The US Media also paid rich tribute to marked improvement in Pakistan’s economy. Many credit rating agencies have upgraded the credit rating of Pakistan which is again a reflection of renewed trust in Pakistan’s burgeoning economy.
Ambassador Jilani remarked that Pakistan was looking forward to working closely with the new US Administration.
Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani thanked the DC based Pakistani correspondents from print & electronic media for their cooperation over the last three years and appreciated the significant role played by them in promoting national interests of the country in the context of Pak-US bilateral relations.
Ambassador Jilani concluded that he would be carrying home the unforgettable memories related to his stay in the US Capital. Washington was a global capital & he enjoyed representing his country during stay here.
