Embassy of Islamic Republic of Pakistan Washington D.C. commemorated the 51st Defence Day of Pakistan

Embassy of Islamic Republic of Pakistan Washington D.C. commemorated the 51st Defence Day of Pakistan to pay tribute to those Pakistani men and women who laid down their lives in the service of their country.

The event was well attended with representation from the civil and military sides of the US Govt and diplomatic community including military representatives of the allied and partner nations. The ceremony began with recitation of Holy Quran followed by national anthems of the two countries and welcome remarks by the Defence Attache.

In his remarks, the Ambassador of Pakistan, H.E. Jalil Abbas Jilani, recalled the sacrifices rendered by the brave soldiers, sailors and airmen of Pakistani Armed Forces and paid rich tribute to the martyred men and women as well as their families for making the ultimate sacrifice for the future of the country. He paid rich tribute to the Pakistani armed forces for their role and sacrifices in the international war against terrorism, their exemplary participation in the international peace keeping missions and their invaluable services for the nation during any natural calamity in the country.

He mentioned the brave Kashmiris and their struggle to achieve their legitimate right to self-determination. Given the importance of the Kashmir dispute for the regional peace and stability, he stressed the need for peaceful resolution of the dispute through dialogue and by respecting the will of the Kashmiri people.

The Ambassador highlighted the importance of multifaceted Pakistan-US bilateral relations and stated that strong bilateral defense relations were an important pillar of the enduring partnership between the two countries.

He reiterated the resolve of the Pakistani nation to overcome all challenges in achieving the common objectives of peace and prosperity.

Virginia State Senator Richard Black also spoke on the occasion and paid rich tributes to the people and armed forces of Pakistan for their role and sacrifices in the international fight against terrorism.
