Minister of Planning, Development and Reference, Professor Ahsan Iqbal and Minister for State for Water and Power, Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali held a meeting with U.S. Energy Secretary Dr. Earnest Moniz

Minister of Planning, Development and Reference, Professor Ahsan Iqbal and Minister for State for Water and Power, Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali held a meeting with U.S. Energy Secretary Dr. Earnest Moniz in Washington DC today. Senior officials of Energy Department, USAID and Pakistan Embassy in Washington also joined the meeting.

Both sides discussed the whole range of bilateral energy cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen this cooperation.

Secretary Moniz offered technical assistance by the U.S. Department of Energy to Pakistan’ energy sector. Minister for Planning sought cooperation of the Energy Department in developing an integrated energy plan, strengthening of grid, energy efficiency, governance reforms and development of hydroelectric projects including Diamir Bhasha Dam.

Building on the mutual understandings reached between the two countries during the recent of Assistant Secretary of Energy John Elkind to Pakistan, the two sides deliberated on the course of Pak-U.S. future energy cooperation.

Pakistan will host an integrated energy planning conference in April 2016, which will be co-sponsored by USAID , NUST, Arizona State University, and the UET, Peshawar.

Both sides committed to remain closely engaged to maintain momentum in bilateral energy cooperation.
