Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani hosted the participants of the 5th Annual Youth Leadership Conference at the Embassy of Pakistan

Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani hosted the participants of the 5th Annual Youth Leadership Conference at the Embassy of Pakistan Washington DC. The event was organized by the Embassy in collaboration with the USPAK Foundation. It was aimed at strengthening the Embassy’s outreach efforts to the Pakistani American community, particularly the youth.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Jilani highlighted the potential of the Pakistani American diaspora, especially the young generation. He underlined the important role the Pakistani community was playing in the socio economic development of both Pakistan and the United States. He urged the participants to look at the opportunities in the mainstream American society and also join professions in politics, Administration, judiciary and media.

Ambassador Jilani also briefed the participants on the Embassy’s open door policy for the Pakistani American community and drew their attention to the various youth-oriented programs being conducted by the Embassy as it’s Generation Next Initiative. He said that Embassy was committed to enhancing its outreach to the Pakistani community in the U.S. especially the young generation.

A documentary showcasing Pakistan’s geography, regional and cultural diversity, and developments in various fields was also aired on the occasion. The participants of the Conference greatly appreciated the documentary especially the stories of Samina Baig, Malala Yousufzai and Haris Suleman who inspired the youth and were symbols of pride for the nation.

Mr. Irfan Malik the President of USPAK Foundation and the members of its Advisory Board offered their gratitude to the Ambassador for the Embassy’s continued support and for providing an opportunity to the young Pakistani American students to strengthen their linkages with the community and the country of their origin.

The event was part of the three-days long USPAK Foundation Youth Leadership Conference (Aug 14-16, 2014) attended by over 110 young Pakistani Americans, mostly high school and college students from several states across the U.S.
