Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs was received at the Capitol Hill today by the leadership of Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representative.
Welcoming Mr. Fatemi on the occasion, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Rep Ed Roys said that Pakistan and US shared common objectives in peace and stability in the region. He expressed the hope that Pakistan’s efforts to root out militancy in border region will yield positive results. Ranking Member of the Committee Rep. Engel expressed appreciation of Pakistani government’s overtures made towards India and Afghanistan with a view to normalize relations with all neighbours. He expressed high confidence in the strength and future growth of Pakistan-US bilateral relations.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister briefed the Congressmen on government’s efforts to improve economic governance, enhance security in the country and defeat scourge of terrorism. Both sides also discussed wide range of issues in bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction on its positive trajectory.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister also met Rep Nita Lowey, Ranking member of House of Appropriation Committee and discussed matters related to economic cooperation. SAPM expressed appreciation for US support to Pakistan in the critical areas such as security, energy and education. He underscored the need for continued investment in mutually beneficial programme in these areas. Rep. Lowey appreciated government’s measures to enhance tax collection.
The meetings at the Capitol Hill were characterized by warmth and cordiality. The SAPM invited the Congressmen to visit Pakistan.
