Ambassador Jilani meets with Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) at the US Capitol

Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani, today, met with Senator Joe Manchin from West Virginia. Defence Secretary Lt General (Retd.) Asif Yasin Malik, who is currently visiting Washington, also joined the Ambassador.

Senator Manchin serves at the four important Committees of the Senate including the Armed Services Committee as well as the Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

Ambassador Jilani briefed the Senator on the state of bilateral relationship and the recent high level exchanges including the Ministerial Review of the Strategic Dialogue. Ambassador thanked the Senator for the US assistance in the energy sector which has helped to add over 1000 MWs of electricity to the national grid. Ambassador Jilani shared the various initiatives undertaken by the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to address the energy shortage as well as to revive the economy.

The Senator assured the Ambassador to continue working with Pakistan in meeting its energy challenges.

Matters of mutual interest including peace and stability in Afghanistan were also discussed. Both sides agreed to work closely for smooth and orderly withdrawal of the US forces from Afghanistan.
