Ambassador Sherry Rehman met with Representative Eliot Engel

Ambassador Sherry Rehman met with Representative Eliot Engel (Democrat, New York) Rep. Engel is the senior most Democrat on the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee. The meeting was part of the Ambassador’s outreach campaign to the 113th Congress. The Ambassador gave Rep. Engel an update on Pakistan US relations including the return to a positive trajectory, thanked him for US assistance to Pakistan and briefed him on political developments in Pakistan, particularly the upcoming historic constitutional transition from one democratically elected government to the next. She also took the opportunity to lay out Pakistan’s concerns and priorities in the relationship while giving details of Pakistan’s contributions and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. Rep. Engel stated that the Pakistan US relationship was extremely important for both countries. Both needed each other. He inquired about developments in Pakistan particularly the upcoming elections. He also sought the Ambassador’s views on making US assistance more effective and meaningful.
