Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal meets Senator Lindsey Graham

Washington: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal met Senator Lindsey Graham (Republican-South Carolina) on Capitol Hill today. The Minister was accompanied by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry.

Senator Graham is a senior Republican who serves on four Senate Committees: Appropriations, Armed Services, Judiciary and Budget.
The Interior Minister and Senator Graham discussed bilateral relations and the regional situation. The Interior Minister briefed the Senator on Pakistan’s successes in combating terrorism through the implementation of the National Action Plan.

The Minister, who also holds the portfolio for Planning, Development and Reform, added that the improvement in the country’s security environment had made Pakistan an attractive destination for foreign investment.

Minister Iqbal said Pakistan wanted to work with the United States to bring peace to Afghanistan because Pakistan’s economic and security gains were at risk from continued instability in Afghanistan.

Senator Graham agreed with the Minister that sustained engagement between Pakistan and the United States remained critical to achieving peace in Afghanistan.
