Embassy of Pakistan, Washington DC hosted an event today to commemorate the Kashmir Solidarity Day. The event was live streamed on the official account of embassy and was well attended by participants from diverse backgrounds to express their support and solidarity with the people of the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K) who are waging a brave and just struggle for realizing their inalienable right to self-determination and freedom.

Messages from the President and Prime Minister on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day were read out by Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani and Ambassador Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, respectively.

Participants were also briefed on the genesis of Kashmir issue as well as prevailing situation in the region. Attendees were briefed that 5 February was being commemorated in Pakistan and globally to express solidarity with the oppressed people of Kashmir who have been waging a struggle for their freedom and self-determination for over 75 years in the face of repression and atrocities at the hands of the Indian occupying forces. While elucidating on the situation of Kashmir, the Ambassador said that the situation in IOJ&K is one of the worst human rights and humanitarian crisis. Pakistan supports the just struggle of the Kashmiri people for the realization of their right to self-determination and has been calling for accountability for the human rights violations in IOJ&K.

Special posters and photographs depicting the plight of Kashmiri people were displayed in the hallways of the Chancery. A documentary portraying the unabated and undeterred resilience of Kashmiri people was also screened during an event. The event was virtually attended by prominent members of the Pakistani American and Kashmiri Diaspora, representatives of civil society, media organizations and journalists.
