Q: What are the Embassy’s consular hours? 

A: Consular services are available Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. Specific hours may vary by service. Please call 202-243-6500 to confirm before visiting. 

 

Q: Do I need an appointment for consular services? 

A: Most services — including MRP renewal and attestation — operate on a first-come, first-served basis. NADRA-related services require an online appointment.

Q: Can I renew my passport online? 

A: No. Passport renewals must be completed in person at the Embassy. However, you can begin your application online at https://mrponline.dgip.gov.pk

A: Required documents include: 

  • Original CNIC/NICOP 
  • Old passport (if applicable) 
  • Proof of U.S. immigration status 
  • Additional documents if the applicant is under 18 or a government employee

A: 

Urgent: 2–3 weeks 

Regular: 3–4 weeks 

 

Q: What should I do if my passport is lost? 

A: You will need a police report with the old passport number. Bring this along with other required documents.

Q: I am a U.S. citizen of Pakistani origin. What type of visa should I apply for? 

A: Apply for a Family Visit Visa. You will need your NICOP, POC, or proof of Pakistani origin. 

 

Q: Can I apply for a visa on arrival? 

A: U.S. citizens are eligible for Visa Prior to Arrival (VPA) under certain categories. Apply at least 48–72 hours in advance via https://visa.nadra.gov.pk/visa-prior-to-arrival  

 

Q: I made a mistake on my visa application. What should I do? 

A: Log into your NADRA visa account and correct the information before submission. If already submitted, resubmit a new application. Incorrect passport type selections (e.g., Diplomatic vs. Ordinary) lead to automatic rejection. 

Q: Can I apply for a NICOP at the Embassy? 

A: NICOP applications must be submitted online at https://id.nadra.gov.pk, but the Embassy offers biometric verification and assistance by appointment only. 

 

Q: What documents are needed for a new NICOP? 

A: You’ll need: 

  • Pakistani passport or CNIC 
  • Birth certificate 
  • Two verifiers’ CNIC numbers 
  • Proof of U.S. immigration status

A: The Executor must appear in person with: 

  • Valid NICOP/passport 
  • Two witnesses’ CNIC info 
  • Printed POA form

Q: Can I renounce my Pakistani citizenship online? 

A: No. You must complete Form X, gather required documents, and submit in person or by mail. The process involves coordination with the Ministry of Interior in Pakistan. 

 

Q: How long does the renunciation process take? 

A: Typically 8–12 weeks or more, depending on document verification. 

 

Q: Is the fee refundable? 

A: No. The $300 fee is non-refundable. 

Q: I need help but don’t know where to begin. What should I do?
