Message from Mr. Mamnoon Hussain President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (On the occasion of “Labour Day, May 1st, 2016)

“We celebrate Labour Day to pay tribute to the working men and women of our country who are central to achieving economic prosperity. This day symbolizes the strength and character of the Pakistani work force due to whose hard work, the country can achieve higher rate of economic growth, higher production and higher levels of productivity.

The Government believes in the dignity of labour and is committed to provide it with better working conditions as a contented workforce can enable Pakistan to compete in a globalized market environment. The Government is resolved to provide better housing, medical and education facilities to the workforce. I must emphasize that the workers and employers are partners in the production process and their mutual cooperation is essential for industrial and agricultural development of the country.

It is heartening to note that the Government has taken a number of practical steps for improving the conditions of the workers but more needs to be done to raise their skills and productivity.

On this occasion while I greet the labours and workers, I also call upon them to continue working hard for the progress, prosperity and socio-economic development of the country.”
