Meeting with Congressman Eliot Engel, Ranking Member, House Foreign Affairs Committee

The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi met the Ranking Member of House Armed Services Committee Rep. Eliot Engel, this morning.

Both sides discussed a range of issues in bilateral relations. The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister informed the Congressman on Pakistan’s continued efforts to deal with the threat of terrorism. He underlined Pakistan’s firm commitment to act against all terrorist networks, without any discrimination. Citing improved security situation in Pakistan, the SAPM highlighted that Pakistan’s recent ongoing efforts had already yielded remarkable success.

The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister also apprised Congressman Engel on economic developments in Pakistan and the government’s efforts to spur domestic growth.

Regional developments also came up for discussion and the SAPM underlined Pakistan’s commitment to work for a peaceful neighbourhood, anchored on good neighbourly relations and regional economic connectivity.

The SAPM and the Ranking Member agreed to continue working toward a stronger Pakistan-US relationship in the future.
