Secretary Kerry calls Foreign Minister Khar

US Secretary of State John Kerry called Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar this evening. Congratulating Secretary Kerry on his appointment, the Foreign Minister said that she looked forward to closely working with him to further expand the multi-faceted relations between the two countries. She expressed confidence that the relations between Pakistan and the United States will continue to move on the positive trajectory and hoped that with his deep understanding of the region and extensive knowledge of global dynamics, Secretary Kerry would make a significant contribution to further strengthening these relations.

Foreign Minister Khar and Secretary Kerry agreed that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was in the common interest of both Pakistan and the US. They expressed satisfaction on the progress that has been made during the past few months and looked forward to more intensive engagement in this regard.

Secretary Kerry, while thanking the Foreign Minister, reaffirmed the desire of the US Government to forge even closer relations with Pakistan and assured her of stronger coordination and cooperation between the two countries. He also congratulated the government on completion of its five-year term.

Secretary Kerry accepted Foreign Minister’s invitation to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience.
