Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani, called on the Governor of Maryland, Mr. Martin O’Malley.

Ambassador availed the opportunity to brief the Governor on the important initiatives taken by the Government of Pakistan to turnaround the economy and to improve the regional peace and security environment. He stressed the importance that the Pakistan attached to engaging the multiple stake holders in the US including its States to further deepen and expand trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The Governor of Maryland, while thanking the Ambassador for his visit to Maryland briefed him on the initiatives that the Governor had undertaken in the State of Maryland to give greater voice and participation to various communities including Pakistani-American Diaspora. He praised the Government of Pakistan’s efforts both in improving the economy and its outreach to its neighbours in the region.

The Governor reciprocated the sentiments conveyed by the Ambassador to expand trade and investment relations between Pakistan and the State of Maryland where he saw immense potential for expansion, particularly in the energy, information technology and related sectors. Thanking the Ambassador for the invitation to visit Pakistan, the Governor agreed to work out a mutually convenient date of the visit.
