The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Syed Tariq Fatemi met the Deputy Secretary of State, Bill Burns in the Department of State
The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Syed Tariq Fatemi met the Deputy Secretary of State, Bill Burns in the Department of State today. Ambassador of Pakistan to the US, Mr. Jalil Abbas Jilani, accompanied him, whereas Deputy Secretary Burns was assisted by Dan Feldman, Principal Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan during the meeting.
The Special Assistant briefed the Deputy Secretary on the ongoing operations in North Waziristan and highlighted the Government’s commitment to eliminate all terrorists from Pakistan’s soil without any distinction.
The Special Assistant also briefed the Deputy Secretary of State on present Government’s outreach to Pakistan’s neighbours and its commitment to maintaining cordial relations with all its neighbors, including Afghanistan and India. He also apprised the Deputy Secretary of State of the steps taken by the Government over the last one year in implementing its economic agenda and shared the good progress made by Pakistan in achieving economic stability and investor confidence.
Deputy Secretary Burns recalled his last visit to Islamabad and fruitful meetings with the Prime Minister and other leaders. He appreciated Pakistan’s stabilizing role in the region. He reiterated the US support for Prime Minister’s economic development plan with special focus on energy and fighting extremism. He also lauded the Prime Minister’s peace initiative with India and hoped that it would help bring prosperity to the people of the two countries.
The Special Assistant also thanked the US for its continued support to Pakistan’s major energy projects including the Dasu hydral project.
